As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Amherst Communications, the job responsibilities are both diverse and critical in ensuring that rural communities receive reliable and advanced telecommunication services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Technology Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement a strategic technology plan that aligns with the company's business goals, especially focusing on the unique challenges of rural areas.
    • Forecast technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies for potential incorporation into the company's service offerings.
  • Network Development and Maintenance:
    • Oversee the design, rollout, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure, including broadband networks, wireless communication systems, and other relevant technologies.
    • Ensure network reliability, scalability, and performance, particularly in challenging rural environments.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead and manage the technology team, including network engineers, IT professionals, and project managers.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development within the team.
  • Innovation and Research:
    • Drive innovation in telecommunications services and solutions, with a focus on addressing the unique needs of rural customers.
    • Stay abreast of industry developments and technological advancements, and lead research and development initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders, such as marketing, sales, and customer service teams, to ensure technology alignment with business needs.
    • Engage with external stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and partners, to promote technology adoption and address specific rural challenges.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Manage the technology budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
    • Oversee procurement of technology equipment and services, negotiating with vendors and contractors to achieve favorable terms.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Security:
    • Ensure all technology operations and infrastructure comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Prioritize cybersecurity and data protection, especially in the context of network and customer data.
  • Customer-Centric Approach:
    • Align technology initiatives with customer needs, focusing on improving customer experience and satisfaction.
    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable telecommunication services to rural customers.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making:
    • Address technology-related challenges efficiently and effectively.
